The midseason finale of "Bones" ended with the team detonating a bomb which sent Aubrey (John Boyd) and Hodgins (T.J. Thyne) to the hospital. On the surface, Aubrey's injuries appeared to be more serious, but later, it was revealed that Hodgins has a spinal cord injury, and later in the episode Brennan (Emily Deschanel) told Angela (Michaela Conlin) that Hodgins is paralyzed.

Speaking with TVLine, executive producer John Collier previewed what will happen to Hodgins and Angela's marriage after he became paralyzed, and the prospects of a 12th season for the Fox hit series.

When asked whether they ever thought about killing off Aubrey or Hodgins, the showrunner said that they didn't consider it as they "love them both," adding that the show isn't like "Game of Thrones."

"What's best for the show is to have them on the show," said Collier.

In the aftermath of the bomb's explosion, Collier said that Hodgins' situation will test his relationship with Angela.
"We really wanted to test their relationship, and we figured that this would be a good way to do it," Collier explained, adding that it's going to get "really difficult" for the couple when the show returns next year.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Collier talked about Thyne and Conlin's commitment to the new storyline and said that this new arc will definitely show off their acting prowess. The showrunner was particularly impressed with Thyne, who, according to him, has not broken character since Hodgins' accident.

"T.J. has not left his wheelchair since this has happened," Collier revealed. "It doesn't matter if he's eating craft service, if they're in between takes—he does not stand."

When asked by TVLine how they are approaching the season 11 finale not knowing if there will be another season for the show, the producer said that they are writing the episodes "as if the show is coming back," but said that the story could go another way.

"Our hope is to get things going into next year," said Collier.

Fox has not announced a return date for "Bones," but the showrunner said that this happens to them every year and if there will be a renewal announcement, it will happen "sometime in March or April."

"Bones" season 11 returns to Fox in 2016.
