The much-anticipated film, "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" will see the clash of two of the world's most beloved superheroes, and DC Comics fans are crossing their fingers that the movie will live up to the hype.

The film is based on a Batman story written by Frank Miller called "The Dark Night Returns," in which a middle-aged Bruce Wayne is forced to come out of retirement. In the movie, Batman (Ben Affleck) is forced to don the suit once more after he and some citizens of Gotham and Metropolis have come to regard the Man of Steel as a threat to humanity.

Joining the two superheroes is Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), who will be making her official big screen debut in the film. It was rumored that the heroine will be portrayed as an immortal woman who has lived through many eras and is following a government conspiracy to track down humans with powers.

With three superheroes in one movie, it is speculated that there could be more than one villain in the film, apart from a scheming Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg). According to Screenrant, one of the most popular theories around is that General Zod will create a villain strong enough to take on Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman.

Other rumors claim that Doomsday, the iconic villain in the '90s best-selling comic book "Death of Superman," could be featured in the film, while some speculate that a Superman clone could also be in the movie.

For now, very little is known about the film's antagonists, but "Batman v Superman" is expected to pave the way for DC Comics and Warner Bros. to launch a massive comic book universe that will rival that of Marvel. There will be 11 more movies released by the DC Cinematic Universe between now and 2020, starting with "Batman v Superman" next year. This will be followed by "Suicide Squad", a Wonder Woman standalone film, an Aquaman movie, a Justice League film, and a movie starring The Flash, among others.

"Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" premieres on March 25, 2016.
