'Avengers: Infinity War' plot news: Groot all grown up in latest trailer

Groot is still Groot in "Avengers: Infinity War," albeit he has now somehow nearly grown back to his original size seen in the first "Guardians of the Galaxy" movie, just in time to help the Avengers defeat Thanos (Josh Brolin) in the upcoming Marvel movie.

A teen Groot has finally been revealed during last Sunday's Super Bowl and just how much he has grown up and how much he is filled with teenage angst and ennui common for beings his age. The said trailer shows Thor (Chris Hemsworth) riding a spaceship with the Guardians right next to Rocket Raccoon (voiced by Bradley Cooper) sitting beside Groot.

Groot is shown engrossed with a smartphone and texting someone "bored lol, u?" which might offend some older-generation viewers who have dreamed of meeting the Avengers ever since they were kids. Nevertheless, Groot should now be ready to fight alongside the Marvel heroes against Thanos, as opposed to his tiny baby Groot form in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," wherein he was seen as somewhat childish and fragile, and incapable of engaging in heavy combat.

Fans expecting Vin Diesel to reprise his role as the grownup Groot's voice are going to be disappointed though, as the teen Groot will be voiced by Terry Notary, probably because Diesel's voice is too rough and deep for a teenager. Diesel's fans should not fret though as he might still be back to voice-over for Groot come "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3."

For those confused as to why Groot is back to being a teenager (and was seen as a baby in vol. 2 of "Guardians of the Galaxy"), the sentient and resilient tree alien sacrificed himself in order to protect his friends and teammates from a spaceship crash in the first installment of "Guardians of the Galaxy." Groot died but a sprout remained of his existence, which made him reborn. The rest of the guardians nourished the sprout and in time Groot had grown back to being a baby, then a teenager, and eventually would be back to his full self. Because of this, lots of fans can assume that Groot simply cannot die and will just be reborn after experiencing a fatal incident.

Groot will be back in action when "Avengers: Infinity War" releases to the big screen on April 25.
