James Cameron is currently hard at work on the "Avatar" sequels, as "Avatar 2" is about to hit movie screens sometime in two years. Though very little is known about the film's plot, the writer/director recently spoke about what he wants to achieve with his upcoming films, saying that he hopes to make people more aware of the state environment and that hopefully, some will be inspired to come up with solutions to help conserve nature.

The 2009 hit film featured themes of environmental protection amid the main story of Sam Worthington's Jake learning about the world of Pandora and its inhabitants.

"It's a fictional format and it's primarily entertainment," said Cameron to People. "But for the first film, I don't think it preached [conservation]. I don't think it told you specifically what to do, but what I do think it did was remind us how important nature is to us, in our kind of true hearts as human beings, and how we're drifting away from it."

As a storyteller, Cameron said that wants to put his energy into inspiring change, and hopes to do this through his films. The second "Avatar" film was previously rumored to explore the seas of Pandora, and it is expected that fans will be treated to more gorgeous scenes as Cameron is an enthusiastic undersea explorer who knows how to capture the mood and feel of the deep blue, as seen in one of his greatest works, "Titanic."

Last month, Cameron promised technological advancements for the "Avatar" sequels, as he told the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (via The Hollywood Reporter) that he is going to strive for it.

"I'm going to push. Not only for better tools, workflow, high dynamic range and high frame rates — the things we are working toward," said the director. "I'm still very bullish on 3D, but we need brighter projection, and ultimately I think it can happen — with no glasses. We'll get there."

"Avatar 2" is slated to open in theaters in December 2018.
