Ubisoft, the game publisher of the video game "Assasin's Creed Origins," is mixing history with technology.
The company dropped an interesting fact when they started The Hieroglyphics Initiative. The Google TensorFlow-powered learning machine aims to simplify the decipherment of ancient Egyptian markings, as it is one of the oldest written languages in mankind's history.
During the development of Cleopatra's Egypt in "Assassin's Creed Origins," Ubisoft realized the level of difficulty they were faced with in trying to unlock the secrets of the past and tried to incorporate modern technology to aid them.
Deciphering hieroglyphics is a time-consuming task. The game publisher set out to find the potential of a machine learning the technology of translating with the goal of making hieroglyphics easier to decipher and accessible to everyone.
In a press release, Hieroglyphics Initiative Project coordinator at Ubisoft, Pierre Miazga, said, "By making the Hieroglyphics Initiative an open source project, we aim to create a new connection between two things that we love at Ubisoft — history and technology."
One of the tasks of the project is to collect as much source material as possible. With that, Ubisoft has been reaching out to researchers and historians to add their contribution to the initiative to build a hieroglyphics translator with a high accuracy rate.
It's no surprise that with this project, "Assassin's Creed Origins" is also no small thing. According to the Xbox Store, fans should expect the game to have a big file size. The store describes the game as being close to 42.3 GB to download.
To put it into context, the physical version of the game will be stored on a dual-layer Blu-ray disc which has storage size of 50 GB each. The size of the game could be problematic for fans who will purchase and download the game online.
"Assassin's Creed Origins" comes out on Oct. 27. It will be available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Microsoft Windows PC.
