Get ready to be spooked by a nostalgic TV show.

"Are You Afraid of the Dark?" is reportedly getting adapted in a feature film. According to a report by Tracking Board, a film version of the TV show is being developed by a division of Paramount Pictures that is targeting a younger demographic.

Gary Dauberman, who has been slowly building a name for himself as a screenwriter in the horror genre, is tasked with developing the script for "Are You Afraid of the Dark?" Dauberman worked on the screenplays of films like "Annabelle" and "It." The movie is set to be produced by Matt Kaplan.

The show premiered in 1992 in Nickelodeon and was shown during Saturday nights. The show catered to the young adult crown and teenagers. The show's recurring plot centered on a group of friends gathered in the woods in a campfire telling scary stories. Each episode highlighted a single story told by one of the teenagers. Some of those kids grew up to have solid careers in television and movies including Rachel Blanchard who appeared on the TV version of the movie "Clueless" and Elisha Cuthbert of "24."

There is a rising appreciation for horror films as of late if box office reports are to be looked at. The success of movies like "It" and "Get Out" lead the horror genre to be where it is today. Whether the movie manages to mirror the horror films that came before it or not is something to look forward to.

Many fans of the horror genre got their early start with watching "Are You Afraid of the Dark?" The new movie being developed will hit those fans with nostalgia and at the same time introduce the younger generation to the franchise and hopefully create a new set of fans for things that scare people in the dark.
