'Aquaman' news: Movie reported to be better than 'Wonder Woman' or 'Justice League'

"Aquaman" is making quite a big splash on the big screen, as the test screening for the upcoming film has made waves and earned the movie an esteemed action blockbuster status that puts both "Wonder Woman" and "Justice League" to shame.

This was according to the critics who have seen early glimpses of the solo movie for the DC superhero, particularly Jeff Sneider of Popcorn Talk's "Meet the Movie Press." One of its biggest strengths already was in its action sequences, which, if the critic reception is to be trusted, is better than any other DC Extended Universe (DCEU) movie to date since "Justice League" is their biggest blockbuster at the moment.

Sneider and another journalist named Umberto Gonzalez sat down and discussed some of the first-hand reactions to the test screening that were posted on various social media sites. Gonzalez even stated that "I heard it was great, man. Someone else told me it was a palette cleanser for them, for DC, what's happened with the Zack Snyder films. So high hopes for that one and 'Shazam.'"

In response to Gonzalez's comments, Sneider said, "I heard that it plays like an Indiana Jones movie and that the action puts 'Wonder Woman' and 'Justice League' to shame. That is what I heard." This ultimately sets the bar expectation high for "Aquaman," as most DCEU films to date have been polarizing save for "Wonder Woman." Even their supposed contender for Marvel Cinematic Universes (MCU) immensely popular "Avengers," which is "Justice League," relatively did not do well in the box office and was a negativity magnet for critics.

This time around, DCEU is putting good faith in James Wan, best known for directing some of the most iconic modern horror film franchises such as "Saw," "Insidious" and the "The Conjuring." Those worried that Wan may not be cut out for action movies need not fret too much as he was also the director of the highly successful "Furious 7," which is one of the most highly rated films in "The Fast and the Furious" franchise.

Apart from the action, those lucky enough to see the film in the test screening also praised it for being emotional. Fans will finally be able to see just how good "Aquaman" really is once it hits the theaters on March 13.
