The fifth season of "American Horror Story" just ended, but new details about the next installment has been revealed, to the delight of fans of the horror anthology.
Speaking at the Television Critics Association winter press tour in Pasadena, California, FX CEO John Landgraf revealed that season 6 of the hit horror series will be set in the present day and will include flashbacks.
"It's set in the present although with echoes of the past," said Landgraf (via Variety). "It's set in two time periods...but principally in the present." The CEO declined to give any further information about the plot and returning cast members as he joked, "[Show creator] Ryan [Murphy] will kill me if I tease anything else."
It is expected that some "AHS" mainstays such as Sarah Paulson, Kathy Bates, and Evan Peters willl be returning for the upcoming season. At the Golden Globe Awards, Murphy appeared to have confirmed Angela Bassett's return as he talked to E! Online about Lady Gaga's win for Best Actress.
"Tonight I started to tell all the actors who they're gonna play for next season 'cause I had too much to drink...so I told Angela Bassett and she was like, 'What?!'" Murphy said.
It is unclear whether Lady Gaga will be returning for the new season as the star confirmed that she is working on a new album. Speaking at the Golden Globes press room after winning her award, the singer said that she is putting out a new album this year.
"I won't tell you when, but it is coming out this year," she said.
Emma Roberts and Jessica Lange are also expected to return. While Lange said last year that season 4 of "American Horror Story" was going to be her last, Murphy has always maintained that he wanted to work with the actress again. As for Roberts, it was reported that she was going to return for the second season of Murphy's other series, "Scream Queens," though it's possible that she may be in the upcoming season of the FX show in some capacity.
A premiere date for season 6 of "American Horror Story" has yet to be announced.
