It seems Advanced Micro Devices' (AMD) ace has just been revealed, as benchmarks for the Ryzen 5 2600 second-generation Ryzen central processing unit (CPU) have been leaked online.

The results were promising such that the consumer CPU yielded as much as a 31 percent performance increase over its previous-generation tier counterpart, the Ryzen 5 1600. Both CPUs will still have six cores though and the same 12 threads, meaning the computer sees it as 12 cores. One thing that gives the 2600 a better performance yield than its previous generation counterpart is the increased base frequency by as much as 200 megahertz (Mhz).

With that said, the 31-percent performance gain was just for multi-threaded (multi-core) applications while the single-threaded (single core) performance was still impressive at 14.5 percent better. This and the newer and much more efficient Ryzen 2 architecture makes it a significant upgrade over the previous Ryzen. The said benchmarks were done in Geekbench, which is a synthetic CPU performance measurement software.

To be specific, the single-threaded score of the 2600 clocked in at 4269 while the multi-threaded score was at 20102. Ryzen 5 1600 owners can try their own Geekbench benchmarks and see how their AMD CPUs measure up against the next generation. One thing to note is that the benchmarks did not indicate whether the 2600 was overclocked or not since that could increase performance by a considerable margin.

There are also other factors that are involved in CPU benchmarking, such as random-access memory (RAM) clock speed that can also affect the Geekbench scores. Regardless, AMD users may have to wait for official reviews and benchmarks of the Ryzen 5 2600 before making up their mind on whether to upgrade or not since that would be the only way to see what the CPU really is capable of and not through a leaked Geekbench score.

The said newer generation of AMD CPUs is set to be released sometime in April, this will include the Ryzen 5 2600 as well as higher and lower tiers of the next-generation Ryzen processors.

The carol assures us that “We three kings of Orient are…” and tells us they were “following yonder star”. Can we be sure there were three of them? Were they kings? Where in the Orient were they from? What was the star they followed? In fact, there is a lot that we just do not know. This is the story …
