The Word of God tells us who we are. As people redeemed by Christ, restored to the Father, and resided in by the Holy Spirit, we ought to know our real identity so that we can stand on it and do what God wants us to do on earth:
To do His will.
Many Christians are unable to live the life God wants for all of us because of the wrong beliefs. They don't know Christ, they don't know the Father, they don't know the Holy Ghost, and they don't know who they are.
In this article we'll take a look at a few wrong views and beliefs about ourselves. We do this in the hope of renewing our minds so that we can live according to God's will, as said in Romans 12:1-2,
"I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God."
Five things a Christian must not be
1) Timid
One of the most common descriptions given to many powerless Christians is that they are timid. Their shyness (or lack of confidence in Christ, maybe) causes them to shrink in the face of many situations where they ought to be bold and confident in Christ, who allows all who believe to do great things for God.
"For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord..." (see 2 Timothy 1:7-8)
2) Worldly
As God's people we ought to imitate Christ. We should be holy for our God is holy. We must strive to live a life devoid of worldliness.
"Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever." (1 John 2:15-17)
3) Self-righteous
Self-righteousness has no place in a Christian's life. We all know that Christ saved us from our sins, and why did He have to do it? It's because we can't save ourselves.
We are sinners saved by grace. That's who we are.
"If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us." (1 John 1:8-10)
4) Mystical
As God's people we ought to be spiritual, but not mystical. We should walk in the Spirit and live in the ways of God, and avoid senseless "spiritual" things contrary to what the Word of God teaches us.
"Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world" (1 John 4:1-3)
5) Naïve
As God's people, we must not be naïve. It's not right to just accept everything that comes our way. We must be discerning and never allow lies, sin, worldly and demonic teaching to penetrate us.
"But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. For if he who comes preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or if you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted—you may well put up with it!" (2 Corinthians 11:3-4)
"Nevertheless I have a few things against you, because you allow that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, to teach and seduce My servants to commit sexual immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols." (Revelation 2:20)
