Rejection is common to all man. We all experience being rejected at times, whether the people who reject us are friends, foes, or are total strangers.
Yes, we all get rejected.
Some moments of rejection can bring about a lifetime of hurt unless we are healed from them.
Children who grew up rejected and abandoned by their parents suffer from an orphan spirit that greatly oppresses them and affects all their decisions in life.
Spouses who feel rejected and unloved by their very spouse end up lonely and unhappy. This is likely one of the major reasons why many couples end up separated or divorced.
It can even happen in the church: Some church members who feel rejected by some fleshly people in the church suffer from alienation and possible disillusionment, thinking that the people in church are hypocrites who don't do what they preach. They end up staying aloof in the church or ultimately leaving it.
As such, rejection is a very dangerous thing,
- It cripples people and hinders us from living a full life in Christ;
- It destroys our relationships with other people;
- It makes us hate others, even to the point of developing a cynical outlook in life.
This is very dangerous!
Healing for wounds brought about by rejection
Rejection may be very painful and even life-stunting, but its effects can be arrested and stopped by the grace of God. The wounds it inflicts on its victims might be painful and ugly, but these wounds can be healed by God's great love.
And when the wounds are healed, the scars become beautiful reminders of God's kindness to us.
Friends, here's something that will help us realize something very important about rejection and God's love:
Rejection teaches us to cast doubt and cynicism on everyone, including God. It teaches us to have faith in the lie that no one will love us and that no one will accept us, ever. It blinds us to the truth of God's great love -- the love that has no beginning and no end.
Friend, God loves you. I may not know you personally, but I know from Scripture that whoever you are, God loves you truly, deeply, and without reservation.
Here are some Bible verses that will help you see God's real love for you even when you feel like everyone in the entire universe has rejected you:
Romans 5:6-8
"For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
Romans 8:35-39
"Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written:
"For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter."
Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
Psalm 27:10-14
"When my father and my mother forsake me, then the Lord will take care of me.
Teach me Your way, O Lord, and lead me in a smooth path, because of my enemies. Do not deliver me to the will of my adversaries; For false witnesses have risen against me, and such as breathe out violence. I would have lost heart, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.
Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord!"
