Xiaomi Redmi 2A deal: Budget smartphone price discounted down to $80 on April 8

 Xiaomi official website

During Xiaomi's five year anniversary event, the company announced a whole array of devices, ranging from its Mi Note Pink Edition, to its smart TV, smart scale and smart power extension cord. In addition, the company also announced its affordable handset named Redmi 2A, which will cater to the entry level smartphone markets by carrying a price of just $97.

The difference between Redmi 2A and Redmi 2 is very negligible; apart from featuring different chipsets, and varied price tags, hardware specifications across both smartphones have remained the same. Redmi 2A possesses a Leadcore L1860C chipset that runs a quad-core processor at 1.5 GHz. Additionally, the SoC is also running a Mali T628 MP2 GPU, 1 GB of RAM and for storage purposes, and 8 GB of on-board memory has been provided (users can also upgrade their storage up to 32 GB via microSD card).

Similar to Redmi 2, Redmi 2A is also able to carry two carrier SIMs and if both carriers have enabled LTE connectivity, the Redmi 2A will also be able to provide that thanks to its in-built LTE modem. As for the screen size and resolution, the affordable handset possesses a 4.7 inch IPS display that is rendering a resolution of 720p. While an abundant number of customers are going to be severely disappointed that Redmi 2A will not be running Lollipop 5.0 'out of the box', users will still be able to enjoy the KitKat 4.4 one.

Other connectivity modules include Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS. For battery backup time, Redmi 2A is incorporated with a 2,200 mAh battery pack and consumers who are interested in purchasing Redmi 2A can select one out of the five colors:

  • White
  • Dark gray
  • Bright yellow
  • Light green
  • Pink

On April 8, 2015, Xiaomi will be offering a special discount to consumers, where the price of Redmi 2A will be reduced to $80. That will allow financially constrained consumers to acquire the budget handset at a fraction of savings.
