Xiaomi, the third largest smartphone maker in the world, started off 2015 by introducing the affordable successor to the Redmi smartphone, the Redmi 2. The Redmi 2 is targeted toward smartphone consumers who are on a strict budget and, according to the company's president, Lei Jun, Xiaomi would also be introducing its flagship handset this January.

Thanks to the details present on the company's official Weibo page, it has now been revealed that Xiaomi plans to impress smartphone fanatics and critics with the unveiling of its flagship device on Jan. 15.  Xiaomi has been rumored to unveil three smartphones and one tablet this year. But while the company has already released pricing details for the Redmi 2, it has not been confirmed what it plans to unveil during the launch.

Xiaomi did give fans one small detail to contemplate over: the flagship device possesses a form factor that is "thinner than the wings of a cicada."

Starting Jan. 8, Xiaomi will be offering tickets for its event, where it will either showcase its Mi 4S or Mi 5 smartphone. Individuals who are interested in purchasing tickets to attend the event can use the company's Mall app. The price of a single ticket will be 1000 ducats, which is equivalent to $16. The sale of tickets will start from noon, China time.

Thanks to its aggressive pricing strategy, Xiaomi was able to achieve success in a very short span of time. The firm currently holds the position of being the third largest smartphone maker in the world with a market share of 5.2 percent. The company is currently trading blows with Lenovo, which has a market share of 5.1 percent. Lenovo's market share spiked after it acquired Motorola.
