Xiaomi, regarded as the 'Apple of China', is not yet through releasing its fair share of smartphones for the year 2015. After releasing its flagship phablet, Mi Note Pro, which features an efficient and powerful version of Snapdragon 810 (version 1.3), the next smartphone that will succeed the 5.7 inch device will most likely be Mi 5. According to GSMDome, Mi 5 is expected to feature a giant 6 inch screen with 2K resolution (2560 by 1440 pixels).

Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 was fabricated on the 20 nm process, and the company's Snapdragon 820 SoC, which is expected to be present inside Mi 5, is going to be manufactured on the 14 nm FinFET process, courtesy of Samsung. Snapdragon 820 will not be suffering from the overheating and thermal throttling issues that numerous smartphones running Snapdragon 810 were plagued with. Thanks to a smaller lithographic process coupled with Qualcomm's Kryo architecture, the cores present inside Snapdragon 820 will be able to sustain their performance without exceeding their temperature threshold for much longer periods.

The 6 inch form factor will be large enough to accommodate a large lithium ion or lithium polymer battery. Though details on battery size and other metrics have not been provided, Xiaomi will be looking at the consumer's requirements when it gears up to release the gadget. Snapdragon 820 will feature the company's Quick Charge 2.0 feature, and Xiaomi is expected to bundle a smartphone charger that is compatible with the aforementioned feature.

All of Xiaomi's flagship handsets are void of a MicroSD slot, so consumers should not hope that the Chinese smartphone manufacturer is going to change its course anytime soon. Similar to Mi Note Pro, Mi 5 is most likely going to feature 4 GB of RAM, giving sufficient headroom for completing multitasking operations.

According to GSMDome, the release date of Mi 5 is going to be Sep. 18, 2015. If the date turns out to be true, then consumers will be able to witness the performance and energy efficiency capabilities that the handset brings to the table much sooner than expected.
