"SOMA," is an upcoming survival horror video that is currently in development by Frictional Games, which is the same game developing studio that brought "Amnesia: The Dark Descent" to the gaming masses.

The video game finally has a release date; it is going to be made available on Microsoft Windows and PlayStation 4 platforms on Sep. 22, 2015. Unfortunately, Xbox One and Xbox 360 owners will be left out of the loop because Frictional Games has not stated if the title will be ported to the aforementioned consoles.

According to Game Debate, the environment of "SOMA" is going to take place underwater, in a remote research facility called PATHOS-2. While plot details are currently unavailable, players will assume the role of an unnamed character in a first person mode and will have to use stealth and evade tactics in order to survive the horror elements that are eventually going to be encountered in the upcoming title.

Similar to videos games like "Outlast" and "Amnesia: The Dark Descent," players will not be able to engage with enemies and will have to take advantage of the stealth, sprint and evade mechanics in order to progress through the game.

Frictional Games received critical acclaim for the efforts the staff had put in to "Amnesia: The Dark Descent." The setting of "SOMA" is an ideal one; with the research facility surrounded nothing but a body of water, it can be assumed that the developing team chose this environment in order to force players to not only avoid death through enemy AI, but also to prevent drowning, if such a thing will be available in the title.

The developing studio will definitely be taking advantage of the next generation graphics engine, which will allow the team to put in additional details in order to augment the survival horror experience, and make the visuals much more attractive compared to previous games.

According to the gaming website, Frictional Games has been working on "SOMA" for the past five years, meaning that a ridiculous amount of effort and time has been put in order to deliver the best possible horror experiences to both PC and console gamers.
