Samsung Galaxy S6 Active vs. Galaxy S6 specs comparison: Which S6 handset is right for you?

After Samsung unveiled its Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge smartphones at the Mobile World Congress, it should not come as a surprise that the South Korean phone maker is doing everything it can to regain the smartphone market share that it has lost to the likes of Apple and rising Chinese smartphone makers such as Xiaomi, Huawei and Lenovo. In order to further improve its sales performance, Samsung has also announced the Galaxy S6 Active, which sports a rugged aesthetic and features a larger screen size compared to the original Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge.

According to PhoneArena, the model number of the Galaxy S6 Active is SM-G890A, which should be assumed that it is the direct successor to the Galaxy S5 Active model since the latter possesses the model number SM-G870A. Additional evidence confirming that the Galaxy S6 Active is in the works is the fact the model number belongs to the carrier company AT&T, indicating that the Galaxy S6 Active will be an exclusive handset, just like its predecessor.

As for the hardware specifications, the only difference separating the Galaxy S6 Active from the remainder of the Galaxy S6 variants is the fact the former possesses a more robust outlook and features a phablet sized form factor of 5.5 inches, while the remaining two models possess a 5.1 inch screen size. While Samsung has not confirmed the following, it is possible that the S6 Active model will possess a microSD slot and a bigger battery.

The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge were void of an option to have their storage capacities expanded but will be shipped out in the 32, 64 and 128 GB models. In addition, both devices also feature a 2,550 mAh battery, which is a downgrade compared to the 2,800 mAh battery stacked on the Galaxy S5. With the Galaxy S6 Active's larger screen size, the phone giant might have sufficient room to incorporate a larger battery, but more information regarding this can only be made available once the S6 Active is officially released.
