With the release of the GeForce GTX Titan X, NVIDIA plans on targeting every segment of the PC gaming market with the rumored release of the GTX 980 Ti. According to Kitguru, the GTX 980 Ti will be processed on the same Maxwell architecture as the GTX Titan X but currently, the primary difference separating the two graphics adapters is that the GTX Titan X features 12 GB of GDDR5 of video frame buffer, which is twice the amount that is present on the GTX 980 Ti (6 GB).

Additionally, it is expected that the upcoming graphics processor will sport 3,072 CUDA Cores and will feature core clocks that will be higher than the Titan X, resulting in performance higher than the GTX 980 and close to NVIDIA's current single GPU flagship offering. The 6 GB of GDDR5 frame buffer will be advantageous for gamers who are gaming on resolutions higher than 1080p. However, according to WCCFtech, there are some occasions where even that amount will be insufficient.

With more and more games boasting visually impressive textures, video RAM present on GPUs gets consumed at an alarming pace, more so if PC gamers want to enable graphical settings such anti-aliasing, which removes the jagged edges from every frame, improving game detail as a result. The GTX Titan X's 12 GB video RAM will come in handy when gaming on the 4K resolutions, but the trade-off that consumers will have to make is spend an exorbitant amount of funds purchasing it.

When NVIDIA had released the GTX 780 Ti in order to gain a performance advantage over AMD's R9 290X, it was retailing for $699. While the following has not been confirmed, the GTX 980 Ti could also come stamped with the same price tag, thus minimizing the price/performance gap created by the GTX Titan X. With Microsoft's DirectX 12 API coming with Windows 10, gamers will be able to get a significant boost in performance, but the extra VRAM is always a welcome feature.

It is possible that NVIDIA will wait for AMD to release its R9 390X, which is scheduled for Q2, 2015. After the GPU's release, NVIDIA could release the pricing details in order to match the price/performance ratio of AMD's upcoming flagship GPU.
