NVIDIA's G-Sync technology allows games to be played without experiencing the ever-present 'screen tearing'.
An occasional stuttering is encountered when gamers activate a setting that prevents the screen tearing issue. However, in order to take advantage of the technology to prevent 'screen tearing', gamers previously had to purchase monitors that featured the company's G-Sync module.
Fortunately, that requirement will no longer be needed. This is because NVIDIA has branched out its tech to work in gaming laptops without requiring a module. According to Engadget, G-Sync will effortlessly work in gaming notebooks that feature the following discreet mobile graphic processors:
- GeForce GTX 960M
- GeForce GTX 965M
- GeForce GTX 970M
- GeForce GTX 980M
So far, there are several gaming laptops announced that are running the aforementioned graphics processing chips and feature certified G-Sync gaming displays. The 17.3 inch ASUS G751, Aorus X5, MSI GT72 G and 4K resolution laptops from Clevo are a few examples of gaming laptops that were recently announced. With the technology enabled, refresh rates will not be limited to 60 Hz. Instead, the G-Sync enabled gaming laptops that have been approved by NVIDIA will have a maximum refresh rate of 75 Hz.
Additionally, these gaming laptops will also include handy features such as windowed mode and borderless gaming, along with the ability to customize the refresh rates at will. Normally, the customization of refresh rates is done in order to limit the maximum FPS counter in order to save power consumption and keep the mobile GPUs in their thermal threshold.
In order to take advantage of the new feature, gamers will be required to download and install NVIDIA's latest GPU drivers. The only downside to witnessing this particular tech in gaming laptops is that gamers are going to have to spend quite a bit of money in acquiring the aforementioned machines. While availability and pricing details are currently unavailable, consumers looking to purchase these laptops should be prepped to spend a ridiculous amount of money.
