Moto X 2015 3rd gen release date; specs included Snapdragon 808 and 4 GB RAM

Motorola is expected to launch its flagship smartphone named Moto X 3rd generation during the month of September, which was the same time period the company released its Moto X 2nd generation in 2014. According to Phone Arena, Moto X 3rd generation will not feature Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810 SoC, since the company has been hammered with negative criticism concerning the overheating issues of its flagship chipset.

Instead, the device is going to feature Qualcomm's Snapdragon 808, which will be running a hexa-core CPU comprising of the following:

  • 2 Cortex-A57 cores
  • 4 Cortex-A53 cores

Having a hexa-core processor will mean that users will be able to get more battery life out of their smartphones since Cortex-A57 is notorious for consuming ridiculous amounts of battery life (consumes 256 percent more power compared to Cortex-A53). Additionally, for multitasking purposes, Motorola will be looking to incorporate 4 GB of RAM, which is the limit for the amount of RAM that 32-bit operating systems can recognize.

While maintaining the same 5.2 inch screen size as it did with its predecessor, Moto X 3rd generation will most likely have its resolution upgraded from 1080p to 1440p. A large 3,280 mAh battery is also going to be present to provide sufficient amounts of battery backup time. The company has yet to place an expandable storage slot in its flagship smartphones, and it appears that it is going to stay that way since Moto X 3rd generation is rumored to be available in the 32 and 64 GB models.

The handset will most likely be running Google's Lollipop 5.1.1 update straight out of the box and for image and video capturing functionality, a 16/5 megapixel rear and front camera sensor combination is expected to be present. Motorola has not revealed the on and off-contract pricing details of its upcoming smartphone so additional information will be available once the company's takes center stage and officially announces its Moto X 3rd generation.
