Microsoft Surface Pro 4 release date; Windows 10 upgrade coming later on?

 Twitter

It was reported earlier that Microsoft's Surface Pro 4 was expected to be released in July. Now, as the tablet nears further to its release date, The Christian Times states that the high performing slate might be released much sooner than expected; during the month of May. In short, the early tablet release might also mean that it will be running Microsoft's Windows 8.1 operating system, which will be upgraded to Windows 10 later on.

As for the hardware specifications, Surface Pro 4 is expected to feature a fanless design while being powered by Intel's Broadwell lineup of processors. Earlier, it was expected that the product will be running Intel's Core M variant belonging to the same lineup, which is present inside Apple's 12 inch MacBook and Microsoft's $499 Surface 3. However, since Surface Pro 4 will feature a much larger price tag compared to Surface 3, it will also mean that the slate will possess much better hardware specifications.

In order to dissipate the heat being generated by the processor and other components, tiny holes will be present at specific areas of Surface Pro 4's chassis. Furthermore, the tablet is also expected to come in different screen size variants, with the largest one being 12 inches. All sizes are expected to render the 2160 by 1440p resolution. The 12 inch form factor will act as a direct competitor to Apple's iPad Pro, which is rumored to be announced at this year's WWDC event.

With Intel's Broadwell processors being manufactured on the 14 nm process, consumers should expect that the CPU will be able to display impressive energy efficiency coupled with terrific processing capabilities. Similar to Surface Pro 3, Surface Pro 3 will most likely feature a fully functional USB 3.0 port, microUSB port and other connectivity options to introduce a high-level of flexibility. As for the upcoming tablet's price, Microsoft has not stated any details.

All the necessary information that was left out will be unveiled during Surface Pro 4's imminent release.
