GTX 980 Ti, the graphics card that is going to reduce the performance gap created between GTX Titan X and GTX 980, is expected to be launched on June 2, 2015, which is the date when the Computex event in underway. GTX 980 Ti is going to feature half the amount of VRAM compared to GTX Titan X; 12 GB against 6 GB and at the same time, the graphics processor is also going to carry a much smaller price tag compared to NVIDIA's current single flagship GPU solution.

According to Hexus, the current retail price of GTX Titan X is $999, which means that GTX 980 Ti could be stamped with a $649 price tag. Unlike GTX 780 Ti, which was announced with a price of $699, NVIDIA has reduced a substantial amount in order to cater to a larger PC gaming audience. If the rumored price of the upcoming GPU happens to be true, then it is also possible that NVIDIA introduces price cuts on its GTX 980.

Since GTX 980 Ti and GTX 980 will only be separated with a price difference of $100, PC gamers would gain additional performance, higher memory bandwidth and most importantly, 2 GB of extra video memory if they end up spending a $100 extra, which would be safest course of action. This would end up plummeting sales of GTX 980, which was NVIDIA's single GPU flagship product for a significantly long period.

With the price cuts, GTX 980 would be catered to the affordable GPU market, even if it still features a larger price tag compared to the company's price/performance card, GTX 970. Given below are the hardware specifications of GTX 980 Ti:

  • CUDA Cores: 2816
  • TMU units: 176
  • ROP units: 96
  • Core clock (MHz): 1000
  • Boost clock (MHz): 1076
  • Memory clock (MHz): 1753
  • Memory Bus Width (bits): 384
  • Memory (GDDR5): 6 GB
  • Memory bandwidth (GB/s): 336
  • TDP (watts): 250
  • Power Connectors: 8+6 pin
  • Display Outputs: Three DisplayPorts, One DVI, One HDMI
