Asus ZenWatch 2 release date at Computex 2015; specs rumors roundup

Besides smartphones, tablets and the newly announced $149 VivoWatch, Asus plans on extending its wearable portfolio with the announcement of ZenWatch 2, which will serve as the successor of the original ZenWatch. The smartwatch is expected to be announced at Computer 2015, which is going to commence on June 2, 2015. Unlike VivoWatch, ZenWatch 2 is going to be running Google's wearable platform, Android Wear.

While Android Wear will severely reduce the overall battery life that users will be able to get from the wearable, Focus Taiwan reports that ZenWatch will be able to deliver 4 days of battery life, which is far lower compared to what VivoWatch is able to give (10 days). Apart from ZenWatch 2, Asus is also gearing up to announce two tablets that will be ruining Intel Atom SoCs, and will be named ZenPad 7 and ZenPad 8.

Phone Arena reports that there will be two models of ZenWatch 2 arriving in the near future; one will be targeted to males while the other will be for females. There were also rumors that the upcoming smartwatch will feature an opening that will allow wearers to insert a SIM card in order to start making calls like they would from their smartphones. Unfortunately, Asus' CEO, Jerry Shen has not commented on the aforementioned feature, leaving Computex 2015 the only event where future smartwatch consumers will get answers to their elusive questions.

No doubt, the wearable will be equipped with better hardware specifications compared to its predecessor, including a larger battery. Currently, the original ZenWatch carries a retail price of $199, and if Asus if able to price its upcoming product along the same lines, then the wearable will become a very competitive contender in the market.
