Google has officially announced Android M, which is the company's next mobile operating system that will take the reins from Android Lollipop later this year when it officially releases. Naturally, Android M will bring an abundant number of performance improvements and tweaks that will overshadow the workings on Android Lollipop. However, perhaps one of the biggest game changers is going to be the multi-window feature, which is expected to be released for the mobile operating system later this year.
According to Sam Mobile, multi-window was introduced by Samsung for its Galaxy Note II way back in 2012. Since the feature allows smartphone users to execute multitasking operations far more comfortably, there were several forum topics started on whether or not the feature would be branched out to different Android running smartphones and tablets. According to a thread on Reddit, an Android user did manage to enable the multi-window feature on Android M, but the completion of this operation took a fair amount of time and a series of complicated steps as well.
The user complained that there were several bugs and issues that needed to be addressed by the development team. It is possible that the development staff stationed at Google will look in to this matter deeply and start to commence the rolling out of updates that will mitigate these bugs. However, since Android M is yet to be officially released, it is difficult to state an exact timeframe at which the feature will be introduced.
The very first devices that will be sporting this handy tool will be the Nexus lineup, although current Nexus device owners can still attempt to run the Android M developer preview, and install the multi-window feature to see how it fares on their devices. Additionally, using a Samsung smartphone that falls in to the mid-ranged or high-end category will also serve their purposes effectively.
