"American Sniper," the war drama film directed by Clint Eastwood, might have garnered mixed reviews from critics but despite that, the movie continues to break world records. In addition to holding six Oscar nominations, Deadline reported that it was able to rake in a box office revenue of $31.85 million during Super Bowl weekend.

The aforementioned amount makes the film the highest grossing movie over a Super Bowl weekend. The record was previously held by "Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert," which raked in $31.12 million. "American Sniper" is also the highest grossing film to be directed by veteran Clint Eastwood, and the highest grossing war film that has been unadjusted for inflation. After calculating the inflation metrics, the film still trails behind Saving Private Ryan (Box Office: $379 million) and Pearl Harbor (Box Office: $291 million).

The film is based on the book "American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in U.S. Military History" written by Chris Kyle who, according to the Department of Defense, is considered to be the most dangerous sniper in American history. According to the department's statistics, Kyle has 160 confirmed kills, although it is stated that his kill tally goes all the way up to 255.

Kyle's military career revolved around four tours in the Iraq War where he earned the moniker "Legend" along with a list of commendations for acts of heroism and meritorious service in combat.

This February, two highly anticipated movies might hamper "American Sniper's" sales performance: "Seventh Son" and "Jupiter Ascending." Furthermore, "Fifty Shades of Grey" will also be hitting theatres this month, which will no doubt compel movie buffs to move away from the war-drama film.
