AMD is now "putting the finishing touches" on its upcoming R9 300 series, meaning it won't be long now before it gets rolled out. This was confirmed by AMD on its Facebook page.

"Hey mate, we don't have an official date to share just yet but the second we know, we will definitely announce it on Facebook," AMD's Facebook post reads. "We're still putting the finishing touches on the 300 series to make sure they live up to expectation. Can't wait to reveal them though. We're pretty excited."

AMD's upcoming R9 390X is expected to feature 4096 cores coupled with a 4 GB video frame buffer. In addition to the high amount of video RAM, the R9 390X will also be the first GPU to sport an SK Hynix's HBM memory design stacking layers upon layers. Using this approach, the chip will boast extremely high memory bandwidth, which will result in overall performance increase in future gaming titles.

Gearing up for its release is perhaps a very prudent strategic decision on the company's part, seeing how its competitor, NVIDIA, is currently attempting to dodge bullets coming from the camp of GeForce GTX 970 owners.

AMD has already been capitalizing on the performance issues plaguing NVIDIA's GTX 970 by slashing the price of its current flagship GPU, the R9 290X, to $299. The R9 290X features video memory of 4 GB which is sufficient to enable all video RAM to utilize graphical features without experiencing sporadic stuttering. It prevents performance issues often experienced by gamers who run out of video memory when enabling in-game graphical settings.

AMD's R9 290X is able to compete with NVIDIA's GTX Titan, which, at one point, stood at the top of the GPU food chain, thanks to its superior performance and 6 GB of video RAM for a single GPU solution. At the time of its release, the card was the only one that possessed the aforementioned amount of video memory, which is exactly the kind of hardware specifications gamers require when immersing in games using extremely high resolutions.

Many gamers and tech enthusiasts are hoping the R9 300 series would become available in the second quarter of this year, if not sooner.
