Not a lot of people understand why former NFL star Tim Tebow made the decision to give up football and join the NY Mets, but the Christian athlete says he had to do it because he really wants a career in sports.

"They say, 'Why? Why not go to a different position in football?'" Tebow shares with Yahoo! Sports. "It's because it's not the game of football. It's what you love doing in it. For me, it was the position of quarterback. And for me, now and what I want to go after, being the best baseball player I can be."

Tebow explains that if he couldn't be a quarterback, then he no longer wanted to be a part of the NFL. He was interested in the position, not the game. Even though Tebow really wants to make his fans happy, he says he had to make the tough call in pursuing his dream and passion.

"By nature I'm a people person," Tebow says. "And I like making people happy. As far as pursuing your dreams and your passions, you have to do what is in your heart, not what other people want you to do. And that's where I think, it's tough, but you've got to choose your passion, you've got to choose your heart more than what people want you to do. And that's what I've tried to do."

Tebow is grateful that he was able to live out his dream as a quarterback. Now that he is going to be a hitter in baseball, he is quite excited for what the future has in store for him.

Should his dream in baseball not pan out the same way his NFL career did, Tebow knows he'll be okay.

Tebow likes to define himself not by his career but by his charitable works through the Tim Tebow Foundation. When the athlete was asked what brings him joy, he did not hesitate in answering: "Helping people."
