Soundcheck07, Tony Campolo to Encourage Youth to Pray for Environmental Injustice

Students are set to consider the issue of freedom and justice for the oppressed at Soundcheck 07, a forthcoming event by student prayer and campaign network SPEAK.

In addition "creative activities, worship, prayer and networking opportunities" will be available at the event. The SPEAK website encourages the public to join, as there will be "something for everyone to engage with, whether you are a veteran campaigner or just beginning to explore justice issues and how they relate to faith and spirituality."

Taking place in London February 24-25, renowned speaker and author Dr Tony Campolo will be addressing the annual gathering that encourages young people to pray and act on issues of social and environmental injustice around the world.

Dr Campolo will also speak at a specially convened JustShare event in central London on Friday February 23.

Campolo, who is a Baptist minister, former spiritual adviser to Bill Clinton and current leader of the US 'Christian Evangelical Left', will address Christians working in London's financial district, challenging their commitment to issues of trade and justice and encouraging them to support policies and practices that lead to a more just world.

In his latest book, Letters to a Young Evangelica/, Dr Campolo records the recent history of American evangelicalism through World War II, Billy Graham's rise to prominence in the 1950s, and the growth of megachurches in the US.
