NVIDIA showcased its upcoming flagship mobile chipset, the Tegra X1 for the first time at the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show that took place in January. The product was able to overcome the performance limitations of the GPU maker's previous flagship chip, the Tegra K1 SoC, by a huge margin. Given the fact that the 'system on a chip' is made on the Maxwell architecture and features the 20 nm lithographic process, the large scale in performance is not such a huge surprise. The latest AnTuTu benchmarking result shows that the Tegra X1 has scored an outstanding result of 74,977 points.

The chip was able to secure a 3D graphics score of 21,000, which is nearly twice the amount that the company's 64 bit capable Denver CPU was able to achieve. The company's chipset also becomes the first SoC to scale the 70,000 point mark, zipping past the Snapdragon 810 and Samsung's Exynos 7420, which scored a benchmarking result of 61,499 and 60,978 respectively. Out of the aforementioned chips, the Exynos 7420 is the one that makes it closest to the GPU score of the Tegra X1, trailing by only 250 points from equaling the new record set by the new king of Android chipset, according to International Business Times.

The NVIDIA Tegra X1 features 256 Cuda cores and provides support for Micrsoft's upcoming API, the DirectX 12. In addition, the 'system on a chip' possesses a 64 bit capable octa-core processor that comprises of four cores belonging to ARM's A57 CPU while the remaining cores also belong to the latter's A53 processor. The Tegra X1 is also capable of recording 4K videos at a frame rate of 60 FPS, which is downright impressive. It is possible that NVIDIA plans to unveil its Shield Tablet successor at the Game Developers Conference 2015, which will feature none other than the tech firm's Tegra X1 chipset.
