LG G Flex 2 specs and features: Unbelievably flexible and unbelievably fast

After hitting a homerun with the release of the G3, LG showcased its new flagship curved smartphone at the CES 2015: the G Flex 2. While LG has scaled down the screen size from 6 inches to 5.5 inches, the G Flex 2 has been given a resolution upgrade of 1080p, while exuding the company's homegrown P-OLED display tech. LG decided not to incorporate a crispier resolution on such a small screen size, which would no doubt have adverse effects on the overall battery life.

The G Flex 2 also sports Qualcomm's flagship chipset, the Snapdragon 810. With that chipset, the G Flex 2's processor runs eight cores and is compatible with the 64-bit architecture, giving advantage to the Lollipop update running on the device.

The remainder of the hardware details are along the lines of the G3: a 3000 mAh battery; 2 to 3 GB of RAM (depending on which storage model the buyer purchases); 16 or 32 GB of internal storage which can be increased through a microSD slot; and a rear 13-megapixel sensor, but with improved software and better hardware optimizations. Wireless connectivity options include Bluetooth 4.0, an 802.11ac wireless adapter and an LTE modem.

According to the company's engineering team, the G Flex 2 is much more shock-resistant and durable than its predecessor, with Ramchan Woo, the chief mobile designer of LG stating, "You can even sit on it," to display the flexibility prowess of the smartphone.

In addition, the Gorilla Glass 3 incorporated in the G Flex 2 has undergone a special chemical treatment that allows it to become 20 percent stronger and more durable than a regular Gorilla Glass 3. LG refers to this amalgamation as the Dura-Guard Glass, and has pointed out that the corners of the Gorilla Glass get a significant improvement through this technique since the corners of a regular Gorilla Glass are normally susceptible to drops and wear-down.

While pricing details have not yet been revealed by the company, the G Flex 2 will go on sale in Korea by the end of this month, followed by the rest of the globe in quick succession. Since the original G Flex came with a price tag that was higher than LG's previous flagship smartphone, the G2, LG will be looking to follow the same pricing pattern.
