R&B singer Fantasia Barrino says her new song "I Made It" is her song of success after she attempted to commit suicide back in 2010.

"Being that young and taking care of my whole family was hard. I also always felt people used to knock me down. I needed to escape," Barrino told Us Weekly. "My new song 'I Made It' is about how I don't let people talk about me like they used to. I control how I feel."

The 32-year-old singer, who rose to stardom after winning the third season of the singing competition "American Idol," introduced the new song to the public during a live performance for "Good Morning America" last Monday. The song, which is part of her new album called "The Definition Of...", is an expression of gratitude to God for never giving up on her at a point when everyone in her life had given up on her, she said.

"You're the only one that never left me when everyone else just didn't care/ You're the only one that really loved me/ I made it/ I made it through the storm/ I got to say thank you Lord for keeping me, for grace and mercy. I thank you, because I made it!" she sang.

Meanwhile, Barrino said during the AOL Build panel that she really stood up for herself in making the new album. A lot of people did not agree with her creative choices in making "The Definition Of...", but she still "fought" for what she wanted, "so much to the point where I think I got on on people's nerves."

"I love music across the board. Not just gospel but R&B, pop, rock, jazz, country, I have a country song on my album. I said I'm not going to allow anyone to put me in a box anymore. How are you going to tell me what to sing and how to sing if I'm the artist. Right?" she said.
