Xbox Ultimate Game Sale starts July 7: what to expect

Microsoft has announced that its massive discount offering for its legions of gamers will return next week. The Xbox Ultimate Game Sale will kick off July 7, and will last until July 13.

In the Xbox Ultimate Game Sale, titles will be discounted for up to 40 percent, with some games even going as far as shaving off half their prices. Aside from the massive discount, more deals will be made available for Xbox Gold Live members, with select titles to be offered with an additional 10 percent off, translating to added discounts.

Although Microsoft platform gamers are already expecting a massive sale to come out to usher summer in, the company still has a few tricks up its sleeve. Aside from general game titles across all genres making the cut, especially big AAA titles like "Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition," "Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor," and "Borderlands: The Handsome Collection," Microsoft will also be adding newer, more recent releases to the mix. Gamers will have the chance to purchase at discounted prices smash hits like "Dragon Age: Inquisition," "Far Cry 4," and unexpectedly, crowd favorite "Mortal Kombat X." Even the controversial and infamous "Goat Simulator" made the cut.

Discounts for numerous game titles will apply to both Xbox One and 360 versions. This is good news for hardcore gamers, as they can then stock up on their favorites. Some of the gamers who took to the forums commented that the Ultimate Game Sale next week is a good chance to get some Xbox 360 titles even if they have the current-gen Xbox One as their game platform, as news about backwards compatibility between Microsoft's platforms surfaced in this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo, when the company announced that 360 titles can be played on the Xbox One in the near future.
