'Titanfall 2' news: Big discount offered by HMV for Black Friday 2016

Though launching just a few weeks ago, "Titanfall 2" has already undergone a price slash at online retailer HMV.

The discounted price is £19.99 from its original price of £49.99, the latest reports suggest. This gives fans savings of £30 which is quite a lot. The change in price came about when the first-person shooter video game did not reach the projected money that it was supposed to earn.

What is interesting is that "Titanfall 2" is actually a hit in terms the response from critics. It garnered mostly favorable reviews that could have helped boost its sales. Unfortunately, it appears that Electronic Arts and Respawn Entertainment made a bad decision releasing it on the tail end of October at the same time as other highly anticipated games. The launch was sandwiched in between the release of EA's own "Battlefield 1" and Activision's "Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare."

Understandably, while they could not have controlled "Infinite Warfare's" release date, EA actually thought ahead in terms of the launches of their two properties. EA chief financial officer Blake Jorgensen actually sounded pretty confident about "Battlefield 1" and "Titanfall 2" doing well on their own when he was questioned about the catastrophic possibility of them potentially cannibalizing each other's sales during an earnings call.

"We're delighted with the way players are reacting to Battlefield 1 and Titanfall 2." Both are reviewing very well, and we expect them to sell strongly for a long time. However, we're only a week into Battlefield and just a handful of days into Titanfall, so it's still too early to update sales forecasts for either," he said.

Furthermore, at that time, he was also eager to continue creating games for the "Titanfall" series building a franchise out of its main narrative.

"[Titanfall] is something that we plan to be working with them on for many, many years to come, and there's huge opportunity inside of that franchise to continue to expand it. Part of the strategy of building a franchise is you have a long view," Jorgensen optimistically added.

As of now, the massive discount on "Titanfall 2," while already displayed has apparently not yet been made available. HMV supposedly will start selling the game at its new price as part of their upcoming Black Friday event. Once live, both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One users can take advantage of the offer.
