Tim Tebow blackballed: Media frenzy might be hindering footballer's career

Tim Tebow is famous for 'Tebowing' - getting down on one knee to pray at matches AP

There is speculation that Tim Tebow is having difficulty securing a new signing after being released by the New York Jets because of the media circus that surrounds him.

He has some weaknesses in his game - much comment has been made on his passing skills - but it's still surprising sports fans that there appears to be no open door to another NFL team.

Speculation that he has been blackballed by NFL teams because of the huge amount of interest from fans and the media were given some weight by comments from one unnamed NFC head coach who told Michael Silver of Yahoo! Sports on Wednesday: "He seems like a great guy to have on a team, and I'd be tempted to bring him in as our backup.  But it's just not worth dealing with all the stuff that comes with it."

"You don't want to put up with the circus," one AFC head coach said.

For all the intense scrutiny, Tebow hasn't said anything, not even at a public appearance he made on Thursday when he gave an address to around 3,000 people at Lake Michigan College.

His Twitter and Facebook accounts have also fallen silent, although that hasn't stopped fans from offering words of encouragement to him on his Facebook page.

Facebook user Nick Hawkins wrote: "Stay strong Tim.....thank the good Lord you're out of that hole."

Robert Morales wrote: "Your life is the lords not the media nor the NFL .. only he will set your life ..rejoice in his mercy .. let him lead your path..GOD BLESS."

The devout Christian's last post on both pages was on 29 April: "Proverbs 3:5-6: Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight."

Tebow has built up a huge fan base among Christians for openly sharing his faith and getting down on one knee to pray on the pitch - known as 'tebowing'.
