The season 5 finale left a lot of fans wondering what happened to Damon and Bonnie after the "Project Kaboom" and putting an end to the Other Side. Producers confirmed earlier that both characters will come back next season. However, the context is still unclear.

Latest speculation is that Damon (Ian Somerhalder) will come back as an ordinary human being. According to WetPaint, TVD producers planned to make Damon be the one who took the vampirism cure; however, decided later against it as fans were predicting that it would be Damon that took the cure. Now could be the perfect time to give the former storyline a go.

To add fuel to the fire, producers are pertaining to the season 6 of "The Vampire Diaries" as a reset or where "everybody gets to start over." Moreover, being human would explore on Damon's character.

Meanwhile, Vicki Donovan (Kayla Ewell) may also be back to Mystic Falls. Vicki was killed off I season 1, but kept appearing throughout the series. Many thought that Vicki will be gone for good in season 5 but her character can still come back. Now, she gave a few hints on what could be the direction of the characters next season.

"I think everyone's really grateful because, in a show like this, you never know. You can die or they can cancel the show at any moment, so you know it's just one of those things where we're still just enjoying each moment as it comes and it's such a close-knit cast, you know, everyone's in their 20s and 30s. Everyone's truly friends, so it's really been quite a cool experience," Kayla told PopSugar.

"The Vampire Diaries" season 6 is set to return this fall.
