The Surface Pro 3, Microsoft's flagship tablet series, received another price drop promotion in the United States which has led to the speculation that the company is preparing to make an announcement for the Surface Pro 4. According to a report from iDigital Times, it is possible that this price drops hints that the Surface Pro 4's launch is near.

The report details that the promotion recently became available via the Microsoft Store and Best Buy. All Surface Pro 3 devices with an i5 processor and above will be eligible for a discount. A Surface Pro 3 with an i5 processor, 128GB storage and 4GB RAM will get a $100 discount, dropping its original price of $999 to $899.

Everything above that level, from the Surface Pro 3 with an i5 processor, 256GB storage and 8GB RAM to the device with an i7 processor, 512GB storage and 8GB RAM will get a $150 price drop.

All of these price drops will last until the promotion ends on June 27.

According to the report, it is possible that Microsoft is trying to sell their remaining stock of Surface Pro 3 devices in order to make room for the upcoming Surface Pro 4. If they are doing so then it only means that the Surface Pro 4 is probably getting ready for launch since Microsoft is trying to clear shelf space.

The launch of Windows 10 is rumored to be on June 29, as stated by iDigital Times, so it is possible as well that the Surface Pro 4 would be the likeliest candidate to showcase the new OS in action. This hints that the release of the Surface Pro 4 may be sooner than people expect.

However, the report also points out that Microsoft might wait until Aug. in order to avail of the more powerful Skylake processors from Intel. If Microsoft does wait for the new processors then the Surface Pro 4 might benefit from faster processing speeds and higher storage space.

As reported by the iDigital Times it could also be very likely that Microsoft is not tying the discount promotion with the Surface Pro 4 at all and are simply trying to cash in on Father's Day.
