MacBook Air 2016 release date, specs news: Laptop not coming this year?; Apple reportedly ditching Air lineups

According to the latest rumors, the MacBook Air 2016 might not see the light of day at all despite the laptop's need for an upgrade as well as its usability.

BGR says that Apple appears to be slowly ditching the laptop line and the site believes that this will be bad for the Cupertino-based company, especially if it continues to give users the pricier Retina MacBook as the only option.

The site says that without MacBook Air, users are forced to go for Chromebooks, instead of the Retina MacBook, which comes with a pretty hefty price tag of $1300.

There haven't been a lot of talks about MacBook Air 2016 while its Pro counterpart is making much more noise. This had many believing that the laptop is not coming at all.

Apple will reportedly be getting rid of its Air line-ups, which includes the iPad Air, which did not see an update last year despite the reports that it would get one.

Also, Macworld points out that Apple CEO Tim Cook is looking at iPad Pro as a potential device to replace laptops. This is what he implied early this year.

"I think if you're looking at a PC, why would you buy a PC anymore? No really, why would you buy one?" Cook mused.

"Yes, the iPad Pro is a replacement for a notebook or a desktop for many, many people. They will start using it and conclude they no longer need to use anything else, other than their phones," he added.

As per reports, Apple is imagined to release MacBook Retina models – one was released earlier this year – as opposed to the MacBook Air.

But there are still lingering rumors that Apple will finally give the MacBook Air its much-needed upgrade next year. The MacBook Air 2016 is even expected to be released with the iPhone 7 next month, although there's little proof to prove that.
