Even though both Xbox One and PlayStation 4 are still relatively new consoles, fans can't still help but wonder about when the next generation offerings might arrive.
As of now, there's no official word regarding the release dates of either the rumored Xbox Two or PlayStation 5, although there have been rumblings suggesting that both consoles may be arriving sooner rather than later.
Rumors even suggest that one next generation console may even be launched well before the other.
The two consoles being launched significantly apart from one another would represent a somewhat interesting development.
Last time around, both Microsoft and Sony released their new consoles right around the same time in 2013.
As of now, though, Sony is rumored to be on an earlier timeline in terms of releasing PlayStation 5 than Microsoft is in relation to Xbox Two.
According to Value Walk, PlayStation 5 is currently expected to be made available sometime either in late 2018 or perhaps a few months into 2019.
The same rumored timeline is not expected for Xbox Two.
In an interview with Tech Radar, former Official Xbox Magazine editor Jon Hicks said that he believes the arrival of Xbox Two may not take as long as the eight-year wait for Xbox One, although it would not surprise him either if the gap would last all the way up to 10 years.
If Hicks' belief is correct, then that would mean that Xbox Two may be released before 2021, although that timeline would represent a projection that falls on the very early end of the spectrum.
Since Microsoft already waited eight years to launch Xbox One after Xbox 360, the company may very well just decide to follow that timeline again, making a 2021 release more realistic.
It's still quite early, however, and with both Sony and Microsoft staying mum regarding the rumored consoles, more official details about the respective debuts of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Two may not be known for a while.
