Folks will have more than just fireworks in the sky to look forward to this coming Fourth of July weekend, as "The Purge 3" will also be making its way to theaters by then.

To be more specific, the movie will first be shown in cinemas on July 1.

For those who may not be familiar with the survival horror franchise, "The Purge" films focus on a 12-hour annual event that gives people freedom to commit any crime without fear of being reprimanded. The event usually involves a lot of violent and often unspeakable acts being done to innocent individuals.

This time around, the third installment of the franchise features a more political twist as a nod to 2016 being an election year.

"The Purge 3," also known as "The Purge: Election Year," follows senator Charlie Roan, played by Elizabeth Mitchell, as she attempts to survive the annual bloodfest after a betrayal in her camp leads to her having a more eventful night than she planned for, according to movie's IMDb page.

Also featured in the upcoming film is actor Frank Grillo, the man who portrayed "Sergeant" in the second installment of the franchise.

Also set to appear in the upcoming film is actor Edwin Hodge. Hodge's expected appearance in the next film will mean that he has shown up in all three movies of "The Purge" franchise.

Folks eager to learn more about the upcoming film can also watch the recently released trailer showing off some of the action.

In the trailer, viewers can see senator Roan's previous experience with the annual event and also get a little bit of insight into why she is running for president.

Fans of the franchise also get a bit of a flashback when they are given a brief look at "Sergeant's" earlier experiences with the bloody event.

More news about "The Purge 3" should be made available in the weeks ahead.
