
September has come and gone, and now, the list of the best-selling games for that month is already out.
Sports games appeared to be very popular during the month of September as they made up 40 percent of the top ten list published by the NPD Group.
Tops among the best-selling video games for September is "NBA 2K16," the latest installment in what has proven to be a highly successful franchise devoted to the game of basketball.
The NPD Group's Liam Callahan also revealed that after adjusting for days on the market, it appears that "NBA 2K16" just enjoyed the most successful launch month for any game in the franchise, which is no small feat.
Following in second place is another sports game in "Madden NFL 16." "Madden NFL 16" continued to build on its strong August showing after it ended up at the top of the charts for that month as well, Gamespot reported.
The run on sports games ends at two as "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain" posts another solid finish, this time winding up in third place.
After that is another sports title as "FIFA 16" finishes in fourth.
The top five ends with "Destiny: The Taken King."
Finishing in sixth is the Wii U title, "Super Mario Maker" and following it is another title geared toward a younger audience in "Disney Infinity 3.0."
In eighth place for the month of September is "Mad Max," while "Minecraft" ends up at the number 10 spot. Sandwiched in between "Mad Max" and "Minecraft" is the other sports game, "NHL 16," that finishes at a respectable ninth place.
In related news, the PlayStation 4 ended up as the number one selling console for the month of September in the United States, PlayStation Lifestyle reported.
It is the fifth consecutive month that the PlayStation 4 finished as the top-selling console inside the United States.
