Sony Xperia Z6 release date, specs rumors: New phone could be announced in February

Among major tech companies, Sony is the rare one that actually launches more than just one flagship unit per year, and if this pattern of behavior holds, then the Xperia Z6 may be announced fairly soon.

According to PC Advisor UK, one of Sony's signature moves, at least when it comes to smartphones, is to release new units every six months or so. This has reportedly been the case for Sony for a while now, and if they continue to do the same thing, then a reasonable estimate for the company announcing the Xperia Z6 would be sometime around February.

Interestingly enough, Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2016 will also be taking in place in February, seemingly giving the company an ideal platform for debuting the Xperia Z6.

It's worth noting that there are also rumblings suggesting that Sony maybe changing things up this year when it comes to their release patterns. Lending some sense of credibility to this rumor are the comments of Sony Art Director Rikke Gertsen Constein suggesting that Sony actually has plans to release the Z6 in the second half of 2016. That would in all likelihood mean that the Xperia Z6 will be featured at September's IFA event, according to Mobi Picker.

As for what people can expect in terms of specs and features from the Xperia Z6, the new phone is expected to feature Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 processor when it is officially released.

The Xperia Z6 is also expected to provide 4 GB of RAM as well as internal storage options of 16 GB and 32 GB.

According to the Australian Network News, Sony's new phone will also sport the same display size as the Z5, which would put it at right around 5.2 inches.

Sony's new smartphone is also expected to feature the Android 6.0 operating system right out of the box.

More news about the Xperia Z6 is expected to emerge before the end of the year.
