The Samsung Galaxy K Zoom has a neat design and nice camera, and is much more competition for the Nokia Lumia 1020 than the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom was

If you are a person who likes a smart phone but feel frustrated by the somewhat sanguine images on the normal devices, the Galaxy K Zoom could be really worth your time.

The Samsung Galaxy K Zoom is coming and while it has less storage, a smaller screen with lower resolution display, and a smaller battery than the Galaxy S5, it does pack a full duty camera.

For one it packs a generous 20.7mp camera - that's 5248x3936 - something you won't get on any smartphone.

In addition to the high mp, it has a 10x optical zoom, giving you greater photographic flexibility and manoeverability.

It also has Xenon and LED flash and optical stabilisation.

You're not going to get nearly as much as that with the Samsung Galaxy S4, which by comparison has a 16mp lens, although it does have autofocus and Xenon LED flash.

For all that flexibility though, you may find yourself hammering your K Zoom's battery, a smaller 2430mAh in comparison to the 2800mAh battery on the Galaxy S5.

It will run on a quad-core 1.3 GHz Cortex A7 with a dual core 1.7GHz Cortex A15, compared to the Samsung Galaxy S5's quad-core.

The Galaxy K Zoom also only offers 8GB of internal storage, rather than the 16GB or 32GB offered by the Galaxy S5.

The chipset is Exynos 5260 against the Galaxy S5's Snapdragon 801, so a little different.  Samsung unveiled the Exynos 5260 at the MWC 2014 and will reportedly improve on the dual-core Exynos 5 processor's performance by 42 per cent.

According to AnAndTech, the six core design of the Exynos 5260 allows for the best balance of performance and low power consumption.

The screen takes a hit against the Galaxy S5, being 4.8-inch Super AMOLED 720x1280 vs the Galaxy S5's 5.1-inch Super AMOLED 1920x1080 pixels.

All in all it's best to think of the Galaxy K Zoom as the phone for you if you are about the photo ops as much as you are about living life through your phone.

If photo happy does sound like you, is it worth you getting over the Nokia Lumia 1020?

Well, Lumia does pack a 41mp camera and the device is pretty powerful.  It has a similar display, just marginally smaller at 4.5 inches, 1280x720 resolution, and measuring 130.4mm tall, 71.4mm wide and 10.4mm thick

It's also lighter though, at 158g against the Galaxy K Zoom's 200g.  All round the K Zoom is a bulkier device, measuring 137.5mm in height, 70.8 in width and 16.6 in depth.

The internals on the Nokia Lumia 1020 are good, running on a Qualcomm Snapdragon dual-core 1.5GHz processor, 2GB RAM and 32GB internal storage.  But it runs on Windows Phone 8.1, which isn't everyone's cup of tea. By contrast the Galaxy K Zoom runs on Android KitKat.

And the bulkier design of the Galaxy K Zoom could make better at withstanding knocks and bumps. It's not waterproof like the Galaxy S5, but the design is more streamlined comfortable than both the S4 Zoom and the awkward looking Nokia Lumia 1020.

Generally these specs kicked the bulky Samsung Galaxy S4 into the long grass and it does still outdo the Galaxy K Zoom in a lot of ways but it certainly seems like the Samsung Galaxy K Zoom has narrowed the gap.

The Galaxy K Zoom is going to go for a price of £400 at the end of May.

To have loved deeply and to have been loved in return is one of life’s greatest gifts. But when that love is taken away, grief follows. And grief, in many ways, never fully leaves.
