'Red Dead Redemption 2' release date: Could game be released by Oct. 2016?

Red Dead Redemption Rockstar

"Red Dead Redemption 2" is currently one of the most talked about, yet still unofficial games out there on the rumor mill, although there appears to have been a minor breakthrough lately.

According to a gamer named "Cyberland," whose claims were subsequently reported by Latino Post, the sequel to "Red Dead Redemption" might be ready to come out by October of next year.

"Cyberland" claims to have a source that apparently knows about the inner workings of Rockstar Games, and according to that mysterious informant, the second "Red Dead Redemption" game should be ready by October 2016 barring any setbacks on the development front.

Of course, given the anonymous nature of the source and even of the mysteriously named "Cyberland," it's hard to verify anything in the claim, although it does line up with a confirmed report that came out earlier this year.

As previously reported by iDigital Times, the parent company of Rockstar Games, Take Two Interactive, has already announced that they will be releasing a new AAA game in 2016.

The statement came directly from company president Karl Slatoff during a quarterly earnings report, so it would seem that the plan is indeed official.

It's worth noting that Slatoff did not specifically mention any month or date for the release of the AAA title, so October is by no means official. Slatoff also did indicate which AAA title he was talking about, meaning it could be "Red Dead Redemption 2" or another well regarded game from the company.

Fans are still unable to truly expect anything from the next "Red Dead Redemption" game as so much of what has been said about it amounts to nothing more than hearsay at this point.

There have been rumblings suggesting that the new game could feature a revamped multiplayer system, although that too can just be wishful thinking on the part of rumormongers.

Regardless, fans will still have to wait at least a little bit longer to learn more about "Red Dead Redemption 2."
