Oculus Rift VR release: headset system requirements announced

Players looking forward to using the Oculus Rift now have a list of system requirements they will need to fulfill if they want to enjoy the virtual reality (VR) headset to its fullest potential.

The official list of system settings for the Oculus Rift was detailed recently in a post appearing on the headset's official website.

First off, gamers will have to choose between getting either the NVIDIA GTX 970 or the AMD 290. Oculus Rift owners can also opt for something more advanced if they want to do so.

Hopeful Oculus Rift owners are also advised to prepare Intel's i5-4590 or something better along with RAM higher than 8 GB available.

Folks who have plans to use the Oculus Rift regularly will also need to have compatible 1.3 video HDMI output along with Windows 7 SP1 or something even newer.

It's worth noting that Oculus Rift has already shifted gears in terms of one of their system requirements.

Previously, it was announced that people would need to have only 2 USB 3.0 ports to use the virtual reality headset, but that has since been changed to four USB 3.0 ports, Gamespresso reported.

The two additional ports are, apparently, for enabling players to switch between ports, depending on the game they play, thus making the whole experience of using the Oculus Rift even better.

It's worth noting that the system settings outlined by Oculus are what they deem to be ideal for the virtual reality headset.

It is possible that Oculus Rift owners could get away with using something less than the recommended settings, though that will in all likelihood have an impact on the type of experience that players will have.

The Oculus Rift is currently lined up for an early 2016 release, with the expectation that it will be launched within next year's first quarter.

No specific release date for the Oculus Rift has been announced.
