NVIDIA has just released a revamped version of their gaming tablet known as the Shield Tablet K1.
If the name of the new NVIDIA release rings a bell, that's most likely because the company launched a very similar device not too long ago.
The Shield Tablet K1 features a quad-core NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor combined with a 192-core Kepler graphics processing unit (GPU).
In terms of its memory capacities, the new gaming tablet provides 2 GB of RAM along with 16 GB of internal storage. Owners also have the option of using a microSD card to help boost that internal storage capacity even more.
NVIDIA's newest offering also provides players with an eight-inch IPS display to help supply them with a substantial enough surface on which they can enjoy their games.
The Shield Tablet K1 also comes equipped with a pair of five-megapixel cameras, with one apiece situated at the front and at the rear of the device.
The new tablet will run the Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system right out of the box, although it is expected to receive the 6.0 update within the next few months.
Fundamentally, the Shield Tablet K1 is largely the same as NVIDIA's first effort, with notable tweaks that are expected to make it perform better.
Notably, the Shield Tablet K1 is believed to no longer present the problem of overheating that was observed in the initial release, according to NDTV.
Interestingly enough, the Shield Tablet K1 does not come bundled together with any charger or microUSB cable, and that was an intentional move on the part of NVIDIA. According to the company, the decision to omit the charger, the microUSB cable, and even a stylus was a cost-cutting move on their part, Engadget reported.
The good news for consumers is that with those items removed from the box, it also retails for a lower price than its predecessor at just $199, as opposed to the original's price that was $299.
