Nexus 6: Google's flagship phone could pack super 20 MP camera with HDR mode

Opinion is split over when the Nexus 6 will be released by Google, with the Google's I/O Developers Conference on 25 and 26 June in San Francisco being floated.

That's at odds with comments from Google VP Sundar Pichai at the Mobile World Congress 2014 that it would be coming in October.

The Nexus 5 launched in November so moving it much earlier than that would be a quite significant fast forward on what we're used to.

And the downside to a summer launch would be that it's likely to miss out on Qualcomm's 810 Snapdragon CPU, which is due to ship in the second half of the year.

The latest speculation is that it is going to be designed by LG and be similar to the LG G3, although there have been whispers of HTC or Motorola taking it on.

With Samsung continually facing criticism for its plastic body, tech followers are wondering whether Google will weigh in for more metal although it's expected the soft edges popular at the moment will still be very much a part of the design.

But it will almost certainly come with the latest operating system, Android 4.5 Lollipop or some other word starting with L.  The name of the update hasn't been confirmed yet but it doesn't matter so much, what matters to Android fans is that it'll be in there, as that has been a major draw of the Nexus devices until now - getting the update before other devices.

At the moment, details of Android of 4.5 have not been confirmed, but it's safe to say it will be an improvement on its predecessor.

But Tech Cocktail is predicting a pretty impressive 18 - 20 MP camera with HDR mode and that Google has hinted at a 3,200 mAh battery.

And with other devices going down the dustproof, waterproof route, there's good reason to think Google would follow suit.
