A mother driving a car with her 5 and 7-year-old daughers inside has landed in jail after crashing her car into an electric post in Georgia. Authorities said that the 25-year-old mom, Bakari Warren, wanted to prove to her children that God exists and thus, would protect them from getting hurt even if she crashed the vehicle.
One of her children told police that Warren deliberately crashed their SUV and drove towards the concrete post with her eyes closed. Before the crash, Warren was telling her daughters about her love and devotion to God, and that she wanted them to be actual witnesses to the wreckage to prove that He is real.
Warren crossed the car from the north side of Peachtree Industrial Boulevard to the southbound lanes. Police rushed to the scene then accosted the mom and placed her in handcuffs, while emergency services checked on the children.
Authorities saw the crash in traffic videos. It showed Warren driving at high speed. The kids and their mom, however, sustained no injuries despite the high speed crash. Their account of what happened was recorded on police videos as well.
Investigation found no other reason to indicate what triggered the mom to put her children's lives in danger in such a reckless way. She told reporters to check her Facebook profile but no entries were found that indicated any clue as to her motives.
Later, she insisted to police that she just really wanted to prove that God exists and would protect them. She defended that the girls were strapped in with their seatbelts before she crashed the car.
"It could have been a lot worse," Norcross police Sergeant Eric Butynski told the press. "It could have been heavier traffic at the time, she could have hit the pole at such an angle that she did more damage to the car."
Warren remains in jail at Gwinnett County with a $22,000 bond and faces charges of two counts of child cruelty. Her children are currently in the custody of their grandparents.
