Microsoft's Surface Pro 4 was released to high expectations after the positive reviews heaped upon its predecessor, the Surface Pro 3, and now it's worth seeing if the newest tablet does indeed deliver.
To truly gain an appreciation for the Surface Pro 4, it's worth taking the time to ponder on just how far the line itself has come.
According to CNet, the initial debut of the Surface Pro did not go well. As the designated rival for Apple's iPad, the Surface Pro presented an array of drawbacks that prevented from posing any real threat. If it wasn't being criticized for its flawed features, then it was getting dumped on for its similarly problematic operating system (OS).
That has now changed.
No matter how they may have managed to stumble upon the correct formula, the bottom line is that Microsoft finally understood what it took to make a great tablet, and the company made that evident with the Surface Pro 3.
Perhaps the best thing that can be said about the Surface Pro 4 is that it improves in just the right ways over its predecessor.
Microsoft's latest tweaks come in the form of slight reductions to the tablet's thickness, while simultaneously providing a larger display that is exactly where it needs to be.
The larger display also provides more than just added viewing space, as the resolution of the newest tablet has also been increased from 216 pixels per inch (ppi) in the Surface Pro 3 to 267 ppi, according to Tech Radar. The resolution is greater than even those offered by Apple's MacBook Air and iPad Pro and the difference is noticeable.
The biggest drawback of the Surface Pro 4 is probably the fact that it is still a cumbersome device to deal with because of the keyboard attached. In other words, it's better used on top of a table than on top of a lap, but it's a minor gripe given the performance of the device itself.
