'Metal Gear Solid': Konami working on 'Metal Gear Solid' pachinko?

 Konami

A new rumor about Japanese game developer and publisher Konami is now making the rounds online, and this one suggests that the company is looking into the possibility of creating a new "Metal Gear Solid" pachinko.

A new trademark, reportedly filed by Konami Parlor Entertainment, is at the heart of this issue.

What's interesting about the new "Big Boss" trademark that has been filed by Konami is that it covers such traditional fare as medal, smartphone, and video games, but that it is also not limited to just that, according to IGN.

The trademark reportedly also accounts for other more interesting items such as board games, slot machines, and, of course, pachinkos.

Konami simply filing for the trademark is obviously no clear indicator that the company does indeed have designs of creating pachinko machines or anything else for that matter, but it does provide them with an easier way to do so if they opt for that route.

If Konami does indeed decide to push forward with a pachinko machine, then one based on "Metal Gear Solid" could provide the company with some significant buzz.

In related news, Konami is also making headlines for a new microtransaction they have introduced to "Metal Gear Solid 5."

The new microtransaction, known as FOB insurance service, is meant to protect any materials or staff a player owns that may be lost in an event of an enemy infiltration, according to Eurogamer. What the microtransaction basically provides players is the assurance that any materials or staff they may lose during an infiltration will simply be there again afterward. The conquering players will instead receive duplicates of the materials or staff they may have captured during the transaction.

Not every item is covered by the insurance, however.

The new microtransaction is now sparking controversy as players talk about how much it is affecting the game.

No word yet on whether Konami plans to do anything regarding the microtransaction and the reactions it has drawn.
