'Marco Polo' Season 3 rumors: premiere expected in the fall as creator says, 'We're not done'

Rumours have been circulating about the possible cancellation of the Netflix historical epic "Marco Polo" supposedly because of low viewership during its second season, plus its huge production cost. Nevertheless, fans are still keeping their fingers crossed for a third season for the series.

Here's some glimmer of hope for avid viewers of "Marco Polo." Series creator John Fusco recently hinted that the series inspired by the life of the popular Venetian merchant traveler may live to see another season.

In a tweet last July 31, Fusco posted a scene in the series featuring actor Benedict Wong, who plays Mongolian conqueror Kublai Khan in "Marco Polo," with the caption: "We're not done, Monk. Me and you, we're not done. #KublaiKhan #HundredEyes"

Some fans saw this tweet as an indication that there will indeed be "Marco Polo" Season 3, and that Wong will still be part of the upcoming episodes, contrary to earlier reports that the actor will be cut from the show.

According to Movie News Guide, "Marco Polo" producers may also put premium on Fusco's deep study and research for the show and may give it one more season.

Also not giving up is actress Olivia Cheng, who plays Lin Mei in "Marco Polo." Also on her official Twitter page, Cheng urged fans to still keep their hopes up for a third season.

"Look waaayy up, pick a star, and wish for Marco Polo season 3," Cheng said in a tweet last week.

If "Marco Polo" indeed manages to have a third season, the upcoming episodes will most likely be aired in the fall or early winter of 2017, according to Netflix Life.

The website said fans should expect a long gap between the second and third seasons due to the show's high production value. It also noted that the second season only came out a year and a half after the first one was released.
