'Longmire' season 5: what to expect

Fans of "Longmire" can breathe a little easier as the show has been picked up all the way through to a fifth season.

With the show's fourth season premiering on Sept. 10, there was a bit of uncertainty with regards to whether "Longmire" could live past it, but now, the news officially says that it will, according to Coming Soon.

A big part of the reason for why there was such a level of heightened uncertainty with regard to the fate of "Longmire" are some criticisms that have emerged in the past suggesting that the show may not have the broad appeal that typically portends a long run on-air.

According to CarterMatt, a significant portion of the show's viewing audience exists out of the hallowed 18 to 49 range that marketing execs typically want to reach out to, and that could indeed be a troubling sign for many programs.

The website goes on to suggest that "Longmire" does not have to adhere to that demographic mainly due to the fact that it is reliant on Netflix, and that enables the show to exist for as long the factors that indicate significant interest are present, regardless of who may be watching.

In an interview with Spoiler TV, Lou Diamond Phillips, one of "Longmire's" stars, echoed the sentiment that what matters most is that the show has significant fan support. Phillips rejects the notion that the show only appeals to a certain segment of the population and instead points to the fans continuing support of "Longmire" as the main reason why it has been picked up for a fifth season.

Fans of the show will simply be glad to know that it will be returning even after its current run, and they will be eager to find out what's in store for their favorite characters.
